Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort

We tried to play the course in January but they seem to have a major drainage problem as the course was in very bad condition, it would be amazing in the summer, it’s a shame as there is a very good set up, the only other thing was how cold and empty the place felt, and very expensive hire items like buggies 47.50€, electric trolley (that constantly wanted to turn left) 22€ and they will even charge you for a pull trolley 6€. If I was to come back it wouldn’t be till the spring into summer months

We visited Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort to book a room, anticipating a better rate in-person. Instead, we were quoted a 60% higher price due to alleged room repairs, contradicting online availability. The reception staff, struggling with English, made communication difficult. Their laughter during our inquiry felt mocking and unprofessional, a demeanor not reflective of a 5-star establishment. Despite this, we lunched there but found the restaurant and bar lacking elegance. The ongoing conference solidified its business-centric atmosphere, drifting away from the luxurious leisure retreat we envisioned. This encounter didn't align with the 5-star prestige we expected.

Restaurant Cobolt needs to make simpler food of higher quality. It’s trying to be something it’s not, so the food was a mixed bag: eg perfectly cooked vegetables, over cooked fish. Ceviche was a bit tasteless and not very fresh- was definitely made earlier in the day or worse. Decent wine list. STAFF were great particularly the bar staff. The hotel itself has good size rooms, well appointed. But the rest of the hotel architecturally can’t decide if it’s a boring old Vila Gale, or something more interesting. Beautifully finished toilets and a reasonably interesting reception area design, are contrasted with a restaurant and breakfast area designed by a paint by numbers child. Horrific in its bland, repetitive colours and furniture. It’s an eye sore. The VIEW is not as the photos on the website. Roof tops block the view to the beach from the pool and ugly cheap doors and windows block any view from the restaurant. It’s for this reason I gave a 3 not. 4 stars. It’s quite simply a completely wasted opportunity to build something amazing, and instead you have a world of average.

We expected more from a 5-star hotel! A lit of kitsch inside: reception for a bollywood movie or a chinese soap. But not for European standards. Breakfast room: cheap furniture in blue artificial leather. Could be in Romania 🇷🇴 or Bulgaria 🇧🇬. Appartment: large area of 60 m2 is OK. But again in this cheap blue artificial leather. Strange!!! The bed was good and the bathroom large and OK. All in all: A bit of a disappointment!
